
S. M. Tareque Abedin PhD Professor, Department of Chemistry
PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Tareque Abedin is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Jahangirnagar University where he has been a faculty member since October 2016. He was an Associate Professor in JU until 2020 and an Assitant Professor at the Comilla University from September 2011 until September 2016.
Tareque completed his Ph.D. at Memorial University, St. John’s, Canada and his M. Sc. and undergraduate studies at Jahangirnagar University. His research interests lie in the area of Synthetic Inorganic Material Chemistry, Organometallic and Polynuclear coordination Chemistry, Molecular Magnetism and Electrochemistry. In recent years, he has focused on better techniques for reducing carbon dioxide using Ruthenium based catalyst. Tareque had two luscious post-doctoral experiences of a total of 03 years. The first one with Prof. L. K. Thomson, University Research Professor, MUN & Trevelyan Fellow, Durham University on the Synthesis of Polynuclear Transition metal cluster and Grids and Magnetism. He completed a second postdoc with Professor A. B. P. Lever, Distinguished University Research Professor and Killam Research Fellow, York University where he studied the catalytic reduction of carbon dioxide using Ruthenium catalyst. He has collaborated actively with several other researchers in allied disciplines.
Tareque has participated in several conferences and workshops both at home and abroad. He has served as the Subproject Manager in HEQEP, an AIF sub-project funded by the World Bank and the Government of Bangladesh. He is currently acting as Principle Investigator (PI) for several projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the University Grant Commission (UGC).
Tareque was the Executive Editor for The Journal of Science Comilla University (JSCoU) published by the Faculty of Science, Comilla University. Currently, he is the Guest Editor for Journal of the Bangladesh Chemical Society (JBCS).
