PROFILE

SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Sharmin Sultana is a committed researcher and academic, currently serving as a lecturer in the Department of History. Originally from Faridpur, she completed her S.S.C. and H.S.C. under the Dhaka Board in science before shifting to the humanities. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Jahangirnagar University in 2016 and 2017. Following her post-graduation, Sharmin briefly worked at the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (2022–2023), gaining valuable experience in data analysis and public sector research. She transitioned to academia in June 2023, joining the Department of History as a lecturer, where she continues to contribute to teaching and research. Her academic interests include the social history of Bengal, public health in colonial and postcolonial contexts, and the intersections of demography and historical development.

 

RESEARCH INTEREST

The social history of health, sanitation, and healthcare infrastructure in colonial and postcolonial Bengal; South Asian modern history, ancient civilizations, and medieval Bengal’s socio-cultural landscape.
