PROFILE

SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Known as Rubayet Ahmed, one of the most promising writers of present time, was born in Bangladesh. He has done his B.A, M.A in Drama & Dramatics department of Jahangirnagar University and got his PhD degree from the same. He has proved himself in every aspect of writing such as, novel, poetry, narrative play, translation, short stories, research, journals and biography. More than 12 of his books have been published from various publications. Many of his plays are being staged in Bangladesh & India. In 2012, Dhaka Theater staged `The Tempest’, the only play in Bengali that has been staged in Shakespeare's Globe Theater, London, was transformed & translated by him. This young writer has been awarded many times for his extraordinary works such as, Komasree Podok for best young writer & Gemcon Young Literature Award. He is working as an Associate Professor in Department of Drama and Dramatics, Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh.

  • In 2023,  Antorjatra, staged “Hidimba”, a play by Rubayet Ahmed, Directed by Habib Masud.
  • In 2022,  Shilpakala Academy, Bandarban staged “Bishadkohon”, a play by Rubayet Ahmed & Lukman Sharif, Directed by Rubayet Ahmed.
  • In 2022, Department of Drama and Dramatics, Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh staged “Laily-Mojnu”, a play by Rubayet Ahmed, Directed by Yusuf Hassan Arko.
  • In 2022, Department of Drama and Dramatics, Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh staged “Ek Chilo Ek Rajjo”, a play adapted by Rubayet Ahmed, Directed by Shoma Mumtaz.
  • In 2021,  Shilpakala Academy, Kurigram staged “Shonitapuran”, a play by Rubayet Ahmed, Directed by Habib Masud.
  • In 2018, Sanskara Nattyadal staged “Mahapatanga”, a play adapted by Rubayet Ahmed, Directed by Habib Masud.
  • In 2016, Theatre Murari Chand staged “Rangmohal”, a play by Rubayet Ahmed, Directed by Yakub Ali & Bidhan Singha.
  • In 2016,  Nattyamoncho staged “Amanisha”, a play by Rubayet Ahmed, Directed by Suvojit Bandyopadhyay.
  • In 2016, Padatik Nattya Sangsad (TSC), staged “Gohonjatra”, a play by Rubayet Ahmed, Directed by Sudip Chakroborthy.
  • In 2014, Dhaka Theatre staged “Outsider”, a play inspired by Albert Kamu’s “The Stranger”. Translated & transformed by Rubayet Ahmed, Directed by Nasir Uddin Yousuff.
  • In 2014, Tareque Masud cultural Centre staged “Ashchorjo Shundor Ei Beche Thaka”, a play inspired by Luisy Briant’s “The Game”. Translation, transformation & direction- Rubayet Ahmed
  • In 2014, Dhaka Theatre staged Selim Al Deen's TV drama ‘Eti Potromita’. Director & playwright- Rubayet Ahmed
  • In 2012, Dhaka Theatre staged “The Tempest” in Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre which was the only play in Bengali that has been performed. This play was transformed & translated by Rubayet Ahmed, directed by Nasir Uddin Yousuff.
  • In 2011, Dhaka Theatre gets donation from the Ministry of Culture, Bangladesh for the play “Noshtoneer” because of the celebration of 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. The translator & the playwright of the stage play is Rubayet Ahmed, director- Pijush Banarjee.
  • In 2011, Dhaka Theatre staged “Jiontokal”, a play based on liberation war.  Writer- Rubayet Ahmed, Director- Samiun Jahan Dola & Wasim Ahmed.
  • In 2009, Anandan staged “Shunnotai Kono Rohoshho Thake Nah”, a play adapted by Rubayet Ahmed,.  Writer- Rubayet Ahmed,  Directed by Tuhin Abanta.
  • In 2006, Jahangirnagar Theatre staged “Barnadut”, a play by Rubayet Ahmed, Directed by Masood Imran Mannu.

The Drama department of University of Dhaka, Jahangirnagar University, Rajshahi University & Chittagong University regularly stages Rubayet’s translated play as their student’s production several times. Many other organizations also stages his translated plays along with his originals.
