PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
At the crossroads of humanities, computation, and creative practice, Mohammad Mamun Or Rashid has spent fifteen years building AI infrastructure for the Bengali language, studying how generative models engage with cultural content, and telling stories through fiction and film. He designed and led the development of more than twenty public-facing Bengali AI tools including Kagoj.ai and Jiggasha.ai — deployed through Bangladesh's national language technology portal. He planned and contributed to implementing multiling.cloud, an archive of endangered languages of Bangladesh, and the layout-free minority language keyboard U-board. As an early researcher, he digitised and analysed the colour-illustrated Caryagiti manuscripts from the archives of Kathmandu. His research spans NLP for low-resource languages, AI model evaluation, misinformation analytics, and AI-generated content, with work published at Elsevier and co-authored in leading NLP and communication conferences including ACM SIGKDD, NAACL, LREC-COLING, NCA, and AEJMC. A Young Gemcon Literary Award winner and director of the ethnographic documentary Living Beautiful Lies, he holds an MSc in Computing with Digital Media from the University of Sussex. He is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Bangla at Jahangirnagar University and Consultant at Brain Lab, EBLICT Project, Bangladesh Computer Council.
