Fahmida Parvin, PhD Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences
PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Fahmida Parvin is a Professor of Environmental sciences at Jahangirnagar University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr. Parvin received her bachelor's and master’s degree in Environmental Sciences in 2009 and 2010 from Jahangirnagar University. She was granted the MEXT (Japan) scholarship for pursuing her PhD in 2015 and was awarded the degree from the Graduate School of Environmental Sciences, Hokkaido University, Japan in 2019. In her early career, she conducted several research studies on the synthesis of biodegradable packaging material and the application of polymers and radiation for textile water treatment. During her Ph.D. she characterized the biomass burning induced atmospheric aerosols, as well as reconstructed the past 400 years emission history and how it is influenced by climate change. After, returning to Jahangirnagar University, she is currently working on 1) emerging pollutants, including microplastics and antibiotic residue in different environmental matrix; 2) Environmental pollution and public health risk assessment; and 3) criteria air pollutants in the atmosphere of Bangladesh. She has made over 50 scholarly contributions, including nearly 45 peer-reviewed research papers (h-index = 19; i10-index = 27; February 2025) and contributed several chapters in books published by international publishers, mostly Elsevier and Springer. She presented her research in several international conferences in Japan, Austria and Iran. Those researches have been exclusively funded by national and internation agencies. In addition to being co-investigator on numerous major research initiatives, she has been acting as Principal Investigator (PI) in several research projects, which are funded by: MOST, BD (2022-23), UGC, BD (2021-22); International foundation for Science (IFS), Sweden (2021-23); Kurita overseas research grant, Japan (2021).
