RESEARCH INTEREST

Syntheses of N/O/S heterocyclic molecules for biochemical studies.My research is directed toward the synthesis of N/O/S containing heterocyclic natural and non-natural

compounds that possess interesting structures and useful biological activities. Problems of current

interest encompass the synthesis of natural products and substances incorporating medium-ring

nitrogen/oxygen/sulfur heterocycles (immunusuppressants; cytotoxic agents; antioxidant; and so on).

Besides, the importance of carbohydrates in biological processes has long been known. Armed with

innovative tools for synthesizing, modifying and studying oligosaccharides and glycoconjugates, our

understanding of these biomolecules is rapidly improving. This knowledge is also yielding promising

candidates for carbohydrate-diagnostics, drugs and vaccines. These substances are of great interest in

oncology, microbiology, immunology, and genetics. My research is thus especially relevant to the

objectives of Drug Research, an exciting multidisciplinary research area.
