A.M. Zakaria khan and Arifa Sultana, “Ethos in Bangladeshi Tradition: A Reconceptualisation”, Media Asia, an Asian Communication Quarterly, Nanyang Technological, University, SINGAPORE. Volume 38, Number 4, 2011.

Abstract: This essay makes an attempt to reconceptualize the construct of ethos, also termed as source credibility (Hovland, Janis, & Kelley, 1953), on the canvas of Bangladeshi cultural perspectives from an Asiacentric viewpoint. Taking Bangladeshi syncretistic cultural tradition as the conceptual foundation, the present authors sketch the configuration of ethos by extracting thoughts and ideas from the religious documents of both Islam and Hinduism, two juxtaposed, yet antithetical, religion of Bangladesh. It was found that Bangladeshi religious-philosophical discourses transcended the existing Western structural standpoint on the source credibility construct, and offered a comprehensive functional approach as to heralding a prospective arena of further inquiry. Implications of such findings in future research have been suggested.

A.M. Zakaria khan and Arifa Sultana, “Prophet Muhammad: An Empirical Model of Ethos/Source Credibility”, Islamic Studies, Islamic Research Institute, International Islamic University, Islamabad, Pakistan, Volume:55, Autumn-Winter: 2016, November:3-4, pp. 275-289.

Abstract:This essay makes an attempt to reconstruct the Western conceptualisation of ethos or source credibility construct within the landscape of Islamisation of knowledge schema. The theoretical configuration here is grounded on the proposition that while the Quran advances the revealed knowledge about source credibility, Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) himself should be regarded as the empirical source of knowledge about the same construct. In effect, a series of documentations from the Quran and hadith is presented here to bolster such Islamic reconceptualisation of source credibility that has been widely studied over the year in Western socio-psychological discourses. Consequently, a set of new dimensions for future inquiries in this field of study is suggested.

Existentialism, nihilism, absurdism and some other recent philosophical movements are immensely influenced by him. His influence on postmodernism and poststructuralism is a remarkable thing in the 20th and 21st century’s intellectual endeavour. Superman Theory is his very controversial work. It is because it proposes an authoritarian figure to survive in personal existential life and also political, social, and even cultural affairs. In this paper, we would like to have a critical glimpse into the theory from a constructive viewpoint and try to unmask its proper application or relevance in the present world. The methodology of this research is almost analytical and evaluative.
