PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Ashma Ahmed Warasy was born in an Muslim family in 1983 at Netrakona district, Bangladesh. She Completed her S.S.C. (1998) and H.S.C. (2000) from Dhaka Board. She graduated from the department of Botany, University of Dhaka with 67% marks. She obtained M.S. (Thesis in Cytogenetic) from the Molecular Cytogenetics Lab. in the same department and Uiversity with 75% marks. She completed her Ph.D. research entitled "Molecular cytogenetics of crotalaria spp. from bangladesh" from the university of Dhaka funded by prestigious Prime Minister Scholarship. Warasy joined as a lecturer in the department of Botany, Jahangirnagar University in 2010 and promoted to Assistant Professor in 2013, Associate professor in 2019 and Professor in 2024. Her research interest is Cytogenetics on plant. She act as a pioneer to establishment of Cytogenetics branch in the department of Botany, Jahangirnagar University. She conduct different cytogenetical research and receive different fund from UGC, RND and many other organizations. She published different articles in various national and international journals. She participated in many national and international seminar, conference, training, workshop. A Ph.D and different M.S. students are working under her supervision and she also act as a reviewer of different renoun journal like Cytologia, BJB, RJB etc.
RESEARCH INTEREST
1. Conventional Cytogenetics : Karyotype analysis with the orcein staining.
2. Molecular Cytogenetics :
a) Fluorescent chromosome banding analysis through CMA and DAPI.
i) CMA- chromomycin A3, specific to GC – rich repetitive sequences.
ii) DAPI- 4-6’ diamidino-2-phenyl indole, specific to AT-rich repetitive sequences.
b) Isolation of genetic and plasmid DNA through PCR analysis.
c) Isozyme analysis
d) Fluorescent in situ hybridization
e) Genomic in situ hybridization
f) RAPD
