Dr M. Arifur Rahman Associate Professor, Department of Physics
PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
I served here as an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at Jahangirnagar University from December 2019. Earlier I worked at the same place as an Assistant Professor from August 2009 and before that, I was a Lecturer from June 2006. I started the journey of my professional life as a Lecturer at The Daffodil International University in September 2004. Meanwhile, I have completed my PhD in Computer Science from The University of Sheffield, Sheffield, UK under the supervision of Professor Neil D Lawrence. At The University of Sheffield, I worked as a Demonstrator from 2012 to 2018. I completed my Master's degree in Human Language Technology and Interfaces (HLTI) under the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Trento, Italy. I received my B.Sc. (Honors) degree from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. For my academic excellence, I was awarded two gold medals, one from the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and another from the President of Bangladesh. At present, I am also serving as a visiting faculty at the Department of the Electrical & Computer Engineering, North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. I am a life member of the Bangladesh Electronics Society. I have authored two books and a number of journal articles and conference papers.
My fields of research interest are Machine Learning, Data modelling, and Computational Biology. At ML@SITraN, The University of Sheffield, UK, I worked on Gaussian process models from Gene Expression Data.

- I was a Session Chair at the 2nd International Conference on Trends in Computational and Cognitive Engineering (TCCE-2020), Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka.

- After successfully completing my PhD from the Department of Computer Science, The University of Sheffield, UK I have joined again at the Department of Physics, Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh.

- I have attended the twenty-ninth annual conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS), 2015 and Workshops on Machine Learning in Computational Biology (MLCB) & Machine Learning in Systems Biology (MLSB) 2015 at Montreal, Canada from December 07 to December 12, 2015. In the workshop, I presented our poster on "Clustering Gene Expression Time Series with Coregionalization".
- I have attended the Mathematical and Statistical Aspects of Molecular Biology (MASAMB) 2015 workshop at the University of Helsinki, Finland from April 015 to April 16, 2015. Here I had a talk on "Clustering Gene Expression Time Series of Mouse Model for Speed Progression of ALS".
- I have attended the Machine learning crash course (MLCC2015) in Genoa, Italy from 20th June.
- I have presented one of our poster papers "A Gaussian Process Model for Inferring the Dynamic Transcription Factor Activity (id: O56)" at 23rd Annual International Conference on Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology and the 14th European Conference on Computational Biology at Dublin, Ireland from July 10, 2015.
