PROFILE

SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Ummeh Saika is working as a Professor of the Department of Geography and Environment in Jagangirnagar University. She Joined Jahangirnagar University in 2009 as a Lecturer. She completed her B.Sc and M.Sc from Jahangirnagar University.

Dr. Saika graduated with her PhD in Urban Environment Management from the Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan with the Japanese Government Human Development Fund. She has been in the university teaching and research for near about nine years. Dr. Saika is experienced with environmental assessment and the geography of disaster. She wrote a number of research papers largely focused on water quality, spatial decisions, environmental risk, gender issues in disaster and urban green space management. She is also experienced with geo-statistical analysis including GIS and Remote Sensing and theoretical modeling. Dr. Saika introduced a new hierarchy park’s system in her PhD research which is applicable to the cities of developing countries. She is now trying to apply different methods and models in her ongoing research in order to contribute in the policy level of the country to improve urban environment and reduce environmental risk and hazards. Dr. Saika attended and presented her research outcomes in a number of international and national conferences and workshops. Currently, she is the Executive Member of the Bangladesh National Geographical Association (BNGA).

She went to Viquarunnisa Noon School and College for her secondary certificate and higher secondary certificate.

 

She was born in Dhaka on 15 October 1985. She is married and blessed with two children.
