PROFILE

SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Tapati Basak, born in 1979, obtained her B.Sc. (Honors) and M.Sc. degree in Statistics from the Department of Statistics, Jahangirnagar University, Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1999 and 2000, respectively.

She stood 1st class 1st position both in Honors and Masters program. Also, she was the topper among all the departments during the Masters program tenure and achieved “Dr. Surat Ali Khan Gold Medal” for her outstanding academic excellence.

In the year 2021, she scored her PhD major in Genetics from the Unit of Statistical Genetics, Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University, Japan, one of the top-ranking universities in the world, with full bright MEXT scholarship.

Her PhD work was focused on developing statistical theory which can be applied as an improvement over the existing genetic association studies. This theory was evaluated for the human DNA sequencing real genotype data.

She was also an academic staff and global online genetics course (edX) assistant in the Unit of Statistical Genetics, Kyoto University from 2015 to 2019.

She has been working as a faculty at Jahangirnagar University since 2006 in the Department of Statistics.

She also had been working as an Officer in BRAC Bank Limited, Bangladesh for about two years during her early ages of service years.

Dr. Basak is focusing her research on Statistical Genetics and Bioinformatics.
