SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Md. Sahadat Alam was born in Gaibandha, Bangladesh. He completed his B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.S. (Thesis) in Physics from Jahangirnagar University, securing a CGPA of 3.80 out of 4 (1st position in order of merit) in his B.Sc. and a GPA of 3.96 out of 4 in his M.S. thesis examinations. He conducted his M.S. thesis research under the supervision of Prof. Dr. A. A. Mamun, focusing on nonlinear waves in both space and laboratory plasmas.
Following his M.S., he began his academic career as a Lecturer in Physics at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Tangail, Bangladesh. He later joined Jahangirnagar University, where he currently holds the position of Assistant Professor of Physics (on leave). In 2015, he was selected as a visiting scientist for the prestigious 65th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Lindau, Germany, where 65 Nobel Laureates and 650 young researchers gathered.
In 2022, he earned a second M.S. in Physics from the University of California, Merced. He is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Physics at Arizona State University, specializing in experimental research on ultrawide bandgap semiconductors, particularly diamond. To date, he has published 23 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and serves as a regular reviewer for several academic journals.
Throughout his academic career, Mr. Alam has received several awards and scholarships, including:
- Amina Ainuddin Memorial Scholarship (2011) and Salahuddin Chowdhury Memorial Scholarship (2011) for securing 1st position in his B.Sc. (Hons.) examination.
- BAS-NABIC Young Researcher Grant Award (2015).
- Summer Fellowship (2021), University of California, Merced.
- William and Carol Motil Scholarship for Experimental Research in Physics (2024), ASU.
