SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Shamia Farhana Shoma is an Associate Professor of Zoology in the Faculty of Biological Sciences at Jahangirnagar University. With a strong dedication to wildlife research, she has been actively engaged in this field since 2009. She holds a B.Sc. (Honours) and M.Sc. in Zoology from Jahangirnagar University, with a focus on Wildlife Ecology, Management, and Conservation Biology. In recognition of her commitment to advancing her expertise, Shamia was awarded the prestigious Australia Award Scholarship in 2017. She embraced this opportunity to pursue her passion for conservation by obtaining a second Master's degree in Conservation Science from The University of Queensland, Australia in 2018.
Shamia actively engages in professional organizations, including the IUCN-Otter Specialist Group (OSG) and the Zoological Society of Bangladesh (ZSB). Through her involvement, she collaborates with like-minded experts, sharing insights, and working towards common conservation goals. During her time in Australia, she was also a member of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB)-UQ Brisbane Chapter, demonstrating her commitment to interdisciplinary cooperation in conservation efforts.
Shamia's research interests center around biodiversity conservation and wildlife ecology, with a specific focus on birds and mammals. Through her studies, she strives to unravel the intricacies of their ecological dynamics and contribute to the development of effective conservation strategies.
