Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim Professor, Department of Statistics and Data Science
PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Md Rezaul Karim, born in 1983, obtained a BSc (4-year honors program) and MSc degrees in Statistics from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh, in 2005 and 2006, respectively. He achieved the first-class first position in the post-graduation during his tenure. Additionally, he secured his second MSc (124 credits, 2-year program) in Biostatistics at the Department of Statistics and Data Science from Hasselt University in 2015 under the VLIR-UOS scholarship.
In 2019, he earned a doctoral degree in science from the Arenberg Doctoral School at KU Leuven (KU Leuven ranked seventh on Thomson Reuters’ 2018 list of the World’s Most Innovative Universities, the highest-ranking of any university outside the United States), Belgium, and from the Doctoral School of Sciences & Technology at Hasselt University, Belgium. His doctoral research focuses on a family of quantile-based asymmetric densities and semi-parametric flexible quantile regression. He also studied a generalized family of quantile-based asymmetric densities for conditional and unconditional settings. This family allows studying a broad range of asymmetric densities, which, in a regression setting, shares the basic philosophy with generalized (non) linear models but focuses on conditional quantile estimation instead of conditional mean estimation. He developed an R package named "QBAsyDist," which is available on the CRAN website.
After completing his first post-graduation, he worked as an MIS Associate in the Global Communication Center (GCC), Dhaka. He also served as a Senior Officer at Sonali Bank Limited, Bangladesh, for a few months. Since 2009, he has been working as a faculty member at Jahangirnagar University in the Department of Statistics, Bangladesh. Moreover, he was an academic staff member at KU Leuven and Hasselt University, Belgium, from 2015 to 2019.
Mr. Karim is interested in conducting collaborative and interdisciplinary research in Data Science and statistics.
