PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Nahreen I. Khan is a human geographer with over 19 years of experience in research, teaching, and policy formulation in Bangladesh and Germany. She possesses extensive expertise in development cooperation and multi-partite relationship management, focusing on collaborations among government, academia, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Her professional portfolio also includes substantial contributions to media, having worked as a program producer, presenter, and feature writer for various television and print platforms.
Dr. Khan earned her PhD in Geography of Service, Communication, and Knowledge Innovation from the University of Marburg, Germany. She holds a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Geography and Environment from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh, and an additional Master’s degree in Environmental Governance, Sustainability, Policy Analysis, and Environmental Conflict Management from the University of Freiburg, Germany. She also earned a Diploma in Gender Studies from the University of BOKU, Vienna , Austria . She also held an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship to work as a visiting scientist at the University of Oldenburg in Germany.
Dr. Khan currently serves as a Director at the Conflict and Resilience Research Institute Canada (CRRIC), an organization dedicated to fostering innovative approaches to conflict resolution, resilience-building, and peacebuilding. CRRIC engages in evidence-based research, transformative dialogue, and policy advocacy to address contemporary challenges of conflict and resilience both locally and globally (www.crric.org). Currently, she is the co-director of CRRIC's Peace in Myanmar project. She looks after CRRIC's operation in the global South.
In addition, Dr. Khan is an Advisor to the Rules of Law on Earth project (www.rulesoflawonearth.org), which focuses on promoting the rule of law and environmental justice through collaborative research, advocacy, and global dialogue. The project aims to ensure the alignment of environmental governance and legal frameworks with principles of sustainability, contributing to equitable solutions for planetary challenges.
Dr. Khan’s interdisciplinary expertise and her leadership roles reflect her commitment to advancing sustainable development, conflict transformation, and global governance.
