
Dr. Ismot Ara Professor, Department of Zoology
PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Ismot Ara was born at Tangail, Bangladesh, in 1972. She started her education at Model Primary School and completed SSC from Bindubashini Govt. Girl’s High School, Tangail. Ismot Ara completed her HSC from Lalmatia Girl’s College, Dhaka and B.Sc. (Hon’s) and M.Sc. from Jahangirnagar University (JU). She was awarded Ph.D. degree from JU. Currently she is a Professor of Jahangirnagar University. Ismot Ara is a Researcher, Red book of threatened fishes of Bangladesh, IUCN,2000 and an assessor, Red list of Bangladesh, Volume 5: Freshwater fishes, IUCN 2015. She also has engaged herself with many national entities. Dr Ismot has written 20 scientific articles in national and international peer reviewed journals, she has received several research projects from NST, UGC and Ministry of Education, which enriched the Laboratory of Limnology and Fishery Sciences, Department of Zoology, JU. Other than academic she was a house tutor of Pritilata Hall, JU from 2007 to 2012. Dr. Ismot Ara was a Member of Executive Committee and Vice-President of Jahangirnagar University Teachers Association (JUTA) in 2020-2021 and 2022, respectively.
