PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Professor Dr. Md. Motaher Hossain received his Doctor of philosophy degree from University of Helsinki, Finland in consumer economics. He obtained Master of Business Administration from L. N. M. Institute of Economic Development and Social Change, Magadh University, India. He completed Bachelor of Science (Hons.) from Aligarh Muslim University, India.
As a postgraduate researcher Dr. Hossain has worked in various research projects with Professor Visa Heinonen, Professor Matti Peltonen, and Professor John Sumelius of the University of Helsinki. He has worked as a member of the ‘Transformation of the Consumer Society (KUMU)’ research group and ‘Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Research Group (SARG)’ of University of Helsinki. Dr. Hossain published many articles as well as worked as a referee of different national and international journals. He attended many international conferences and presented research articles in the United Kingdom, China, Finland, and Japan. He has successfully supervised (degree awarded) two PhD students and, at present, supervising a few MPhil and PhD students. In addition to that, every year he supervises several BBA and MBA students.
Dr Hossain taught a full 5 credit course (Principles of Management) at the department of Economics and Management, University of Helsinki in the spring semester of 2010 and 2011, delivered lectures (jointly with other faculty members) in other two courses, and collaborated with other faculty members of the department of Economics and Management, University of Helsinki.
Dr. Hossain is actively contributing as a Senate Member of Jahangirnagar University since 2015. He is serving as the President of Jahangirnagar University Teachers' Association (JUTA) . Dr. Hossain has also served as the Secretary, Treasurer, Joint Secretary, and Executive Member of Jahangirnagar University Teachers' Association (JUTA) in different times. Dr. Hossain served as the chairman of the Provost Committee and the Provost of Begum Sufia Kamal Hall of Jahangirnagar University. He contributed much in the academic administration by serving as the Coordinator of weekend MBA program and the Director of Institute of Business Administration, Jahangirnagar University.
Dr. Hossain, as a student, served Bangladeshi Academic Forum in Finnish Universities in many capacities: vice-president, general secretary, and executive member. He was awarded different scholarships and grants: Ella and Georg Ehrnrooth Foundation grant, Kyosti Haatajan Foundation grant, Agricultural and Forestry Science Fund grant (University of Helsinki), Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation grant, Centre for International Mobility (CIMO, Finland) fellowship, Hans Bang Foundation Scholarship, Transformation of Consumer Society Graduate School (University of Helsinki) fellowship, University of Helsinki International Student Grant.
