PROFILE

SHORT BIOGRAPHY

A. K. M. Rashidul Alam is one of the Professors of Department of Environmental Sciences at Jahangirnagar University (JU), Bangladesh. In August 2002, Rashidul Alam joined as a Lecturer at the Department of Environmental Sciences of JU. In December 2005, he was promoted as an Assistant Professor. In March 2014, Rashidul Alam was upgraded as Associate Professor at the Department of Environmental Sciences of JU. In June 2018, Rashidul Alam was upgraded as Professor at the Department of Environmental Sciences of JU.

Rashidul Alam acquired Ph.D. degree from Graduate School of Environmental Sciences of Hokkaido University, Japan. He completed B.Sc. and M.Sc. (Thesis- Ecology and Environment) in Botany from the Department of Botany under the Faculty of Biological Sciences of Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh.

Since 1999, Rashidul Alam has been conducting research on various aspects of environmental issues, especially on ecology & biodiversity, marine meta-community, marine bioinvasion, blue economy, wastewater treatment with aquatic macrophytes (phytoremediation/bioremediation of pollutants), monitoring and mitigation of pollution, microplastic contamination, climate change and indigenous adaptation practices.

Course Teacher

  • Rashidul Alam is presently a course teacher of Ecology, Foundation of Biotic Environment, Environmental Pollution and Mitigation, Marine Meta-Community, Bioinvasions and Blue Economy. 
  • Rashidul Alam has been acting as one of the Adjunct Faculty Members in the Department of Environmental Science, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) since January 2019.
  • He taught previously the courses namely Introduction to Environmental Sciences, Environmental Biology, Introduction to Soil Science, Waste Management, Environmental Biochemistry and Ecotoxicology, Environmental Microbiology, Environmental Laws, Treaties and Ethics, Nature Conservation, Limnology and Oceanography, Global Climate Change and Environment, Environment and Bangladesh Perspectives, Biological Pollution and Mitigation, Aquatic Ecology, Biomonitoring of Pollution, Hydrology and Water Resource Management, Public Health and Environment.
  • Rashidul Alam is one of the course teachers of Laboratory Work in Biotic Environment, Laboratory Work in Environmental Biology, Environmental Survey and Laboratory Works in Ecology and Environmental Microbiology.

He taught the course Phycology at the Department of Botany of Jahangirnagar University. In addition, he taught the course Environmental Biotechnology at the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering of Jahangirnagar University.

Rashidul Alam taught the courses namely Agriculture and Environment, Urbanization and Environment, Soil and Environment, and Forest and Wildlife Management at the Department of Environmental Science and Resource Management of Mawlana Bhasani Science and Technology University.
